EleDiary - Journal & Notebook Privacy Policy

We try not to collect data at all. This page explains what EleDiary - Journal & Notebook touches, why, where it is stored, and how you can take it back.

This policy applies to EleDiary - Journal & Notebook (the "App"), developed and operated by Hefei Xiguoke Technology Co., Ltd. ("we", "us"). Please read it in full before using the App. Continued use means you have read and agreed to everything below.

1. Introduction

We believe in a simple rule: if we don't need the data, we don't take it. The App is built local-first — almost everything you create stays on your device. We run no server that holds it, so there is nothing for us to read.

This policy answers three questions: what we touch, why it is necessary, and what you can do about it. Plain language, no filler.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Content you create

Everything you type or import — notes, images, numbers, tags, remarks — is stored locally on your device by default, isolated from other apps by the operating system's sandbox.

It never leaves your device unless you turn on cloud sync yourself (iCloud Backup, iCloud Drive, and similar). Once enabled, your data is held by Apple's cloud service under your own iCloud account. We cannot access it and we do not hold the keys.

2.2 Device and diagnostic data

To track down crashes and slowdowns, some builds collect anonymous device and diagnostic data, typically:

  • device model, OS version, app version, language and region settings;
  • crash traces, error logs and performance samples;
  • coarse location at country/region level, as reported by the system or the analytics provider.

This data exists to improve stability. It is not used to identify you, and it is never linked to the content you create in the App.

2.3 Purchases and orders

Where the App offers paid features, purchases are processed by the Apple App Store (or whichever official store distributes the App). We never receive your card number, payment password or billing address — only a de-identified order token from the store, used to confirm that your entitlement was granted.

2.4 What we do not collect

  • Contacts, SMS, call logs, precise location, camera or microphone — unless a feature genuinely needs it and you grant permission in the system dialog;
  • Any cross-app advertising identifier (IDFA);
  • Sensitive personal information such as your legal name, national ID number or face data.

3. How We Use Information

Collected data is used for these purposes only:

  1. Keeping core features working — saving and restoring your data;
  2. Diagnosing crashes, fixing bugs, improving performance and interaction;
  3. Verifying purchases and handling refunds or support requests;
  4. Meeting obligations required by law.

We do not use it for advertising, do not sell it to anyone, and do not build behavioural profiles from it.

4. Storage and Security

  • Local data lives in the app sandbox, protected by your device passcode or biometrics. Jailbreaking or rooting removes those protections — please don't.
  • In transit: every network request is encrypted over HTTPS.
  • Access control: the small amount of data we can see is restricted to the minimum set of people who need it to keep the service running.
  • Honest caveat: no technical measure is absolute. If a security incident occurs, we will notify you and the relevant authority as the law requires.

5. Sharing, Transfer and Disclosure

We do not share your personal information with third parties, except where:

  1. You gave explicit consent beforehand;
  2. A provider is essential to delivering a feature (see section 6), and only to the extent needed for that service;
  3. The law requires it — a binding request from a judicial or administrative authority, or where necessary to protect life, property or substantial lawful rights;
  4. Our business changes — in a merger, split or asset transfer we will tell you who the recipient is and bind them to this policy; any new purpose requires fresh consent.

We do not publicly disclose your personal information, other than under item 3.

6. Third-Party Services

A small number of services keep the App running. The table lists the categories currently in play; what applies depends on the build you use.

Service Purpose Provider
In-app purchases Verifying purchases and granting entitlements Apple Inc.
Crash and performance analytics Anonymous crash reports and metrics Apple Inc. (App Store Connect)
Cloud backup Storing app data once you enable it Apple Inc. (iCloud)
Email Receiving your feedback and questions Your email provider

Each service is governed by its own privacy policy. You may decline any of them — core features generally keep working, with the exception of cloud backup and purchases.

7. Your Rights

Subject to applicable law, you may:

  • Access and copy — export or review data inside the App (most features offer an export action);
  • Correct — edit anything directly in the App;
  • Delete — remove individual entries or everything at once; uninstalling the App clears local data (copies already synced to iCloud must be deleted separately in system settings);
  • Withdraw permissions — turn off camera, photos or notifications at any time under Settings → Privacy & Security;
  • Close your account — there is none. The App needs no account; if you enabled optional cloud sync, sign out and clear it in system settings.

Exercising these rights is free. Send requests to the contact in section 11 and we will respond within 15 business days.

8. Retention and Deletion

Local data is yours to keep or erase. Diagnostic logs are retained for at most 180 days and then removed automatically.

When you delete data or uninstall the App we remove the corresponding information from our production environment. Records we are legally required to keep (for example transaction proofs) are deleted or anonymised once the retention period ends, and are never used for everyday operations.

9. Children

The App is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children. If you are under 14, please read this policy with a parent or guardian and use the App under their guidance.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. A guardian who finds that a child has provided information without consent can reach us through section 11 and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

Products evolve, and so do policies. When a material change occurs — a wider collection scope, a new purpose — we will announce it in the App or on this page and update the effective date and version at the top.

Continuing to use the App means you accept the updated policy. If you do not, you may stop using it and delete your data. Checking back here now and then is a good habit.

11. Contact Us

Questions, complaints or suggestions about this policy are welcome:

We reply within 15 business days. If you are not satisfied with how we handled your request, you may also lodge a complaint with the data protection authority in your jurisdiction.
